eBay is cutting about 9 percent of its workforce, with reports placing the number of affected jobs at around 1,000 to 1,100.
The company had 12,300 employees at the end of 2025. Staff were informed of the job cuts on Tuesday, and spokespeople confirmed the layoffs on Wednesday.
A spokesperson said the step was taken to keep eBay operating from a position of strength by aligning teams and resources with its top strategic priorities.
The spokesperson added that eBay is committed to supporting affected staff through the transition with care and respect.
What the CEO told staff
CEO Jamie Iannone told staff about the job cuts in a memo. In it, he said eBay's strategy is working, but the company must make thoughtful choices about where it focuses and invests.
Our strategy is working
Iannone said affected staff would be informed in the coming days.
Recent pressure and past cuts
An initial round of layoffs in February affected 800 jobs, or about 6 percent of the workforce, according to reports.
GameStop made an unsolicited takeover offer for eBay in May, valuing the company at between $55.5 billion and $56 billion. GameStop chief Ryan Cohen argued that eBay was poorly managed and not innovative enough. eBay rejected the offer, saying it was neither credible nor attractive.
What next
eBay is slated to report its latest earnings next week. The company has not yet said which departments, roles or geographies are affected by the layoffs, or when the cuts will take effect.
